Talawanda High School E-News - March 19, 2020
GREAT NEWS…….We are planning Prom ‘21 and Graduation ‘21 as we speak! The really great part about this planning is that we are planning real, live, in-person events.
We do have guidelines to follow, but we are going to be able to get closer to “normal”.
PROM
Date: May 1
Place: Talawanda High School
Who’s coming: All Talawanda Juniors, Seniors and members of the Class of 2020.
What to wear: Dress for Prom this year can be formal, informal, casual, something comfortable. Our Prom will be using outdoor spaces between the school and the Athletic Complex as much as possible. We will have restrooms, snacks and other amenities available as well. If needed, due to weather conditions, we will be able to move indoors to the cafeteria and gym. Be prepared for an old fashion “sock-hop” if that happens. Due to circumstances, our gym floor will not be covered, so heels and “scuffy” shoes won’t work.
Tickets: Tickets will be available for purchase on-line, exactly the way we sold tickets for sports events this year. We are going to keep the cost down for this year’s Prom. More information on this will be available soon. BUT, every member of the Junior/Senior classes and members of the Class of 2020 will have a ticket reserved for them. We hope you choose to come.
GRADUATION
The date for Graduation is May 27 with a Plan B for weather on May 28. Graduation will be held on the THS athletic field. This venue allows for the necessary protocols we need to observe and allows us to involve more family members of Graduates. Each Graduate will be allotted 4 tickets. Tickets for Graduation will be available, of course at no cost, through our on-line process. Seniors are aware that gowns are blue which allows us to relax the Dress Code for their comfort, personal style, and cost. More information about the ceremony will be given to Seniors by Mr. Tincher when we return from Spring Break.
Important Information and Reminders:
- Talawanda/Butler Tech Mentorship/Leadership Class is sponsoring “Super Shelter” drop off pet supplies to support the Animal Adoption Foundation. More info here.
- Congratulations to Setting Stone for not only winning a Gold Medal award from Columbia Scholastic Press Association but also earning the CSPA’s highest honor--a Crown Award. Setting Stone is the only magazine in Ohio to earn this honor this year.
- National Honor Society News: Congratulations to our new members for the 2020-21 school year. Link to view this year's virtual induction ceremony: https://youtu.be/Nm2EIQA9ovg It's a great, 15-minute video to watch as a family to celebrate your NHS member's success.
- NHS Seniors: NHS graduation stoles may be ordered from Ms. Alfonsi in room 315 at THS by April 15. The cost is $19.oo each, and the graduate keeps the stole. This year, we will wear white stoles to contrast with the blue graduation gowns everyone will wear. It is fine to borrow an NHS stole from an older sibling or friend, but please make sure it is white. We will NOT wear the light blue stole from the past. Please bring cash or a check payable to Talawanda High School by April 15. You may also order directly from the NHS Official Store at https://www.nhs.us/store/ using the discount code IND21. You will pay shipping for orders under $50, though, so it's most cost-effective to order the stole through our chapter's bulk order. Thanks, everyone!
- Hello Talawanda Families! The Class of 2024 is raising money to start their class fund and to help pay for next year's homecoming with a shirt sale! Show your support and school spirit at the same time with soft, high quality shirts! Adult and youth sizes available! Save a few dollars at checkout by having shirts delivered to Ashley Sammons at the high school and I will deliver them to your school when they arrive! Feel free to share with families in the district and anyone else who may be interested! Thanks for your support! Fundraiser Link!
- The Talawanda Athletic Boosters will be holding our annual Golf Scramble Fundraiser on Sunday, April 25th at Indian Ridge Golf Course. We will start the scramble at 1:00pm. Please see the flyer for more information. The online sign up will be available tomorrow morning. Please pass this on to any community member or alumni that is interested in participating or sponsoring a Golf Hole.
- Parents can still buy a yearbook for the 2020-21 school year! Visit www.jostens.com and select 'Yearbooks' from the menu - search for 'Talawanda' and you will be able to get yours online today!
- Remote students… Your school pictures are here! Stop by the main vestibule during school hours to pick them up.
- Tired of arguing with your child? Check out this free program The Parent Project! Reduce arguments, prevent or intervene in alcohol or drug use, improve school attendance and performance!
- The THS Media Center has double the number of overdue books due to the remote learning and school closings. We did not have a chance to collect most of the books that were due from the 2019-2020 school year and most of the books that were checked out during the brief face-to-face weeks in late October and early November 2020. If possible, especially those who are currently attending in person, please return or renew any book you currently have checked out that is overdue.
- Food distribution happens on Mondays from 2:15-2:45 at all 3 elementary schools. In addition, TMS and THS Students who will not be face to face on Wednesdays can pick up a breakfast and lunch at TMS or THS between 10 am and noon. More information here!
