School News
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We hope that you all had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the time you had to spend together with family and friends. It seems like we just left but we are ready and excited to see all the students real soon. As a reminder the first day for Grades 1 to 5 is August 16th and the first day for Kindergarten will be August 21st.
Our Open House - Meet the Teacher will take place on October 15th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM for Grades 1 to 5. This is an opportunity for your child and you to meet the teacher, tour the classroom and building, add money to your child’s lunch account, pay school fees, and learn about some of the community programs in our area. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. The doors will open at 4:30 but feel free to stop by anytime between 4:30 and 6:00.
This year all the back to school forms that we need to have completed will be completed online using Final Forms. An email was sent to the email address we have on file with directions for logging in and completing these forms. Please log in and complete the forms as soon as possible. This helps us update our records and provides us with important information regarding your child’s health and safety. If you did not receive an email please check your spam folder for an email from Final Forms. If you still did not receive an email please contact the Marshall office at 273-3600 to provide us with an email address. The only form that will come home in the back to school folder is the Free and Reduced Lunch application. Please complete this form and return it to school. Again, please take the time to complete the forms as soon as possible.
For the 2017-18 school year we are making a change to our school-wide behavior program and will be discontinuing the color chart system. We will continue to follow our SOAR expectations and will continue to acknowledge students for following the expectations. When addressing breakdowns of the expectations we will utilize the Give ‘em Five conversation model (mentioned in the SOAR Handbook posted on the website) to engage students in the process of resolving the breakdown. Communication home will let you know that your child was being Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful. If they were not you will receive communication on the area of breakdown.
We have a few new faces at Marshall this year. We welcome Mrs. Tebbe as an intervention specialist this year. We are excited to welcome her to the Marshall family although she already was - Mrs. Tebbe attended Marshall as a student. In addition we have another Talawanda graduate at Marshall - Mrs. Schwegman will be sharing the duties as counselor with Mrs. Elam. We also welcome Mrs. Drake as our OT provider and Mr. Vizedom will be our day custodian.
