Title I programs use federal funds to direct services to specific at-risk students above and beyond those services provided with regular state and local resources. The purpose of this funding is to provide supplemental funding to economically disadvantaged districts a for improving educational outcomes for students who are failing or at risk of failing to meet State standards. At Talawanda, federal funds are used for additional reading instruction in grades K-3. Local funds are used to support reading intervention at grades 4 and 5. Highly qualified teachers and educational assistants work with students in small groups to provide additional reading supports.
